It is the Takacs Quartet. They were trained in Hungary but now make their home in boulder, Colorado. And nearly everywhere they play, it's to sold out crowds.
Members of the Takacs Quartet have been playing together for more than 30 years and are known for infusing their music with a mix of drama, warmth and humor.
Miles Cohen of the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society said, "They certainly wear their emotions on their sleeves. They are a little bit more buttoned down so to speak and I think that for us Philadelphians and in general for their audiences because there's a real connection they feel with the ensemble."
The two time Grammy winning ensemble will perform an all early 20th century program with works from Janacek, Benjamin Britten and Ravel's very familiar string quartet in f major.
"That piece pops up in movies, in commercials, definitely they may not say they know it's Ravel but once they hear it, they'll go oh I've heard that before," said Cohen.
This is the 12th time the chamber music society has brought the Takacs Quartet to Philadelphia. The concert is set for November 11th in the Kimmel Center's 600 seat Perelman theatre.
Cohen commented, "When you're in these intimate settings, it's a conversation. It's the dialogue and here it is an ensemble for people that are really communicating directly to their audience. I think that's one of the major reasons why Philadelphians love them."
