A holiday favorite returns to Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - November 13, 2011

This is the 42nd holiday season for Babes in Toyland, a fairy tale musical known for its stunning costumes, captivating story and unforgettable songs. Over the years, an estimated 3 million people have enjoyed the show.

Laurie Wagman, Founder & Executive Director, ATAFY says, "It's American Theatre Arts for Youth's gift to everyone and it is the perfect show for families of all ages."

Written by Victor Herbert in 1903, Babes in Toyland was originally a serious play for adults but over the years, it's become a campy holiday romp that's a hit with kids.

'It has a charming love story, chases, lots of wonderful audience participation and wonderful songs. He's a villain and he's anxious to show it. We have probably the funniest villain that ever was written. He's very bumbling, who loves being a villain and turns out to be a pussycat in the end," added Wagman.

American Theatre Arts for Youth or ATAFY is the leading producer of musical theatre specifically for kids. The troupe performs in 228 cities around the country but calls Philadelphia home. Their shows always carry an educational message. The moral here is to value friendship and family.

Wagman stated, "It's a very simple message but it's the biggest message that life has to offer."

Babes in Toyland opens at the Kimmel Center's Perelman Theatre on November 26th and runs through December 22nd. For tickets and show times, visit the Kimmel Center.
