DNA tests confirm ID of storage unit body in Maine

LEWISTON, Maine -December 2, 2011 Spokesman Steve McCausland says DNA tests performed at a laboratory in Pennsylvania confirmed the identity of Kitty Wardwell's body. The state medical examiner's office determined that Wardwell's death was a homicide, but the cause of her death was being withheld.

Wardwell's family was alerted Friday morning.

The storage unit was rented by Wardwell's former boyfriend Frank Julian, who died Oct. 1 at age 80. Wardwell had been missing for 28 years.

Julian told investigators he last saw 29-year-old Wardwell after an argument in 1983, when he left her at a motel in Salem, N.H.
