Jackson benched after missing team meeting

PHILADELPHIA - November 13, 2011

Jackson missed a team meeting Saturday morning.

A source close to DeSean Jackson tells Action News missing the meeting was an honest mistake and Jackson just overslept.

The source says the punishment is unfair and believes the Eagles benched the receiver only to devalue him during contract negotiations.

It wasn't the first time Jackson has been late or missed a meeting, one person told the Associated Press, calling this the "final straw."

Action News spoke with Jackson's agent Drew Rosenhaus, who gave no comment regarding the benching.

Jackson is in the final year of his rookie contract and held out for 11 days during training camp. He hasn't complained publicly about not getting a new deal. The deadline for teams to give players contract extensions and have money count toward this year's salary cap passed.

Jackson had 110 catches for 2,223 yards and 15 TDs as a receiver the last two years and already owns the franchise record with four punt returns for scores.

Jason Avant replaced Jackson in the starting lineup.
