NEWARK, Del. - November 15, 2011

An arrest warrant has been issued for Marvin M. Holmes. He is charged with Attempted Rape Second Degree and Strangulation.

Holmes, who also goes by the names "Nico", "Rick" and "Mar", is known to frequent residences and businesses located along Elkton Road in Newark.

Officers were dispatched around 9:00 p.m. Sunday to Apple Road where they met with the 30-year-old victim. The woman told officers that she had walked from her home to the 7-11 on Elkton Road, however she became confused on how to get back to her house.

While she stood outside the convenience store, a man, later identified as Holmes, approached her and offered to show her the way back to her street. She followed the Holmes, but said she got suspicious when he began to lead her toward James F. Hall Trail in Phillips Park.

The victim turned around to leave when Holmes grabbed her, knocked her to the ground, and attempted to remove her clothing. The woman was able to fight him off and managed to escape by running to a nearby residence on Apple Road.

The victim sustained minor neck and back pain but refused medical treatment.
