Delaware residents upset over recycling center

November 16, 2011 8:05:25 AM PST
Residents of a southern Delaware town are opposing a recycling center for yard waste proposed for their area.

The Daily Times of Salisbury reports that more than 150 Millville-area residents have signed a petition opposing the proposed site off Whites Neck Road.

An official handling the project says the facility will only take in organic yard waste such as grass, leaves, bushes, shrubs, Christmas trees and small tree limbs. Those would be turned into mulch.

The site is supposed to relieve the burden on Delaware's landfills.

Residents, however, argue that an increase in truck traffic could overwhelm area roads and that locating the site in the area would decrease property values.
