Prosecutor: NJ double homicide not random

HAMMONTON, N.J. - November 16, 2011

Housel says the prosecutor's office is close to filing charges in connection with the murder of 64-year-old Diana Patterson and her 29-year-old son, Ryan.

Police were called to the Patterson's home at 32 S. Madison Avenue around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 3rd.

Ryan had more than 20 stab and slash wounds, authorities said, while Diana suffered from more than 10.

Police say Ryan was able call 911 early Thursday morning before succumbing his wounds.

Forensic investigators removed about a dozen bags of evidence from the home as well as computer equipment on the day of the homicides.

A few days later, a knife was found in the yard of a home on 12th Street in Hammonton, but was never definitely linked in this crime.

Residents say Diana Patterson worked on medical records from home while Ryan was a motocross enthusiast who competed in the dirt bike sport regularly.

On the night after their bodies were discovered, a vigil was held at the Atco Raceway Ryan Patterson loved to compete on.

As of now, no arrests have been announced.

"This office has been working and will continue to work diligently on completing a thorough investigation of these crimes," Housel said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office at 609-909-7800 or Crimestoppers at 609-652-1234 or 800-658-8477.
