Girl survives abduction attempt in Chester Co.

SCHUYLKILL TWP., PA. - December 8, 2011

Police say a high school girl was walking west on Potthouse Road headed to school around 8:00 a.m. when a man who jumped out of a pickup truck near Audrey Lane.

"A white male in a gray colored small pickup truck approached her, actually got out of his truck, grabbed her. She pushed him away and was able to run away from him," said Chief James Fetterman of the Schuylkill Township Police.

The teenager then ran to her school about a mile away and called police.

She has been able to give a sketch artist a detailed description of the suspect.

He is a white man in his mid- to late 40s, brown and gray hair with scruffy facial hair. The girl says he was driving an older gray pickup truck, possibly with Ohio plates, with a black bumper sticker of a fishing rod in the window behind the driver.

The Phoenixville School District immediately sent out an e-mail notifying parents, along with a reverse 911 call describing the attempted abduction.

The incident, as rare as can be in these parts, deeply concerns parents of school children.

"It is very unusual," said Phoenixville resident Kristen Mark. "It's not really heard of up here that much. So yeah, it is a little disconcerting,"

If you see someone fitting the description of the suspect or his pickup truck, you are asked to call 911 to alert police.
