Car flips over on Del. road, ice blamed

CENTERVILLE, Del. - December 12, 2011

The crash happened at 8:27 a.m. in the 600 block of Old Kennett Road in the area of Way Road.

Police say the 39-year-old driver told them she was driving northbound when she saw ice on the road. She said she swerved to avoid the ice but had to swerve back into her lane because of an oncoming car.

She then hit the ice, went up an embankment and overturned.

Investigators say the driver was helped out of her vehicle by a resident of a nearby home who also gave her shelter from the cold until police arrived.

The driver was treated at the scene for bumps and bruises. No other injuries were reported and it did not appear that any other vehicles were involved.

The Delaware Department of Transportation was called out to treat the road.
