NE Extension reopens after fiery wreck

The southbound lanes of the Northeast Extension have reopened, after being closed for several hours following a fatal truck crash.

A driver was killed when a car was hit by a tractor trailer, sparking a fire early Tuesday morning.

The crash happened in Whitpain Township near the Mid-County interchange.

That's where, police say, the truck rear-ended the car.

Because of the impact, both the car and the cab of the truck caught fire.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital in an unknown condition.

Pennsylvania State Police are on the scene investigating.
