Masked gunmen rob toll plaza on Garden State Parkway

HILLSIDE, N.J. - December 23, 2011

It was shortly after 5:00 a.m. when police say four masked men in a silver Chrysler 300 approached the northbound toll plaza, known as the Union toll plaza, located in Hillside, Union County.

The left rear passenger pointed a gun at the toll collector and demanded money. At the same time, the right rear passenger jumped out of the vehicle and robbed another toll booth. The gunmen then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Luckily, neither toll collector was injured in the incident.

Surveillance cameras captured the license plate of the suspect's car. State Police later located a silver Chrysler 300 at the registered address. However, they learned that the car had the front plate removed and had not been moved for some time. It appears the suspects stole the plate to apply to a similar vehicle, which was then used in the robbery.
