Police ID man killed in Trenton shooting

TRENTON, N.J. - December 27, 2011

Police received a call for shots fire at 11:59 p.m. Monday at the corner of Lalor Street and Jersey Street.

When officers were heading to the scene they were flagged down by a vehicle on Roebling Avenue, several blocks from the original scene. Inside were several people, including a man who had just been shot.

Investigators learned that the incident all began when several suspects on foot approached the vehicle at the corner of Lalor Street and Jersey Street. Some type of altercation occurred, and then someone fired a gun at the vehicle, striking a passenger inside.

The vehicle then fled the scene and was heading toward the hospital. Nobody else in the vehicle was hurt.

The victim, who was later pronounced dead at Capital Health Regional Medical Center, has been identified as 21-year-old Gerel Grimsley of Trenton.

No arrests have been made.
