Driving with cold or flu like drunk driving

LONDON, ENGLAND; January 5, 2012

That's the message from a study by the British insurance company Young Marmalade.

Using telematic "black box" monitors on cars, the study showed cold sufferers had slower reaction times, hit the brakes suddenly more often, and were less aware of surrounding traffic than those who were NOT sick.

They said a driver who was 95% accurate when healthy fell to being about 65% accurate during a cold.

And that was without cold medications, which are well known to hamper concentration and awareness.

The company says if you're sick, stay home or have someone else drive.
