New Castle officer involved in crash

NEW CASTLE, Del. - January 4, 2012

Police say the cruiser was traveling northbound on Route 13 and struck a car that was crossing the center median near the community of Midvale.

On Wednesday at 4:22 p.m., the police cruiser, driven by a 34-year-old New Castle County police officer, struck the passenger side of an Oldsmobile Cutlass, driven by a 45-year-old female, that was entering the northbound lanes after the car crossed the center median.

After the impact, the Oldsmobile came to rest in the center median and the police cruiser stopped in the northbound shoulder.

The driver and her 22-year-old female passenger were transported by ambulance from the scene to the Christiana Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries and released.

The female officer was also taken to the hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and released.

The crash remains under investigation.
