Woman struck by train in Lansdowne

LANSDOWNE, Pa. - January 11, 2012

Shortly after 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, Lansdowne police were dispatched to the SEPTA Media/Elwyn Regional Rail crossing at Union Avenue for a report of a person struck by the commuter train.

Upon arrival, police found that a pedestrian was struck by an inbound train.

On Wednesday afternoon, police identified the person as a 65-year-old woman and determined it was a suicide.

The woman's car was found near the scene.

The Media/Elwyn regional rail line and South Union Avenue between Baltimore and Nyack avenues were closed until after 9:00 a.m. while investigators gathered information regarding the incident.

The investigation to this point does not indicate any foul play was involved but the final determination on the cause of her death will not be made until the investigation and the findings of the Delaware County Medical Examiner have been completed.
