It was a savage attack, and it left a man with life threatening injuries.
Police identify the victims as 29-year-old Dorshain Presbery and his 23-year-old girlfriend, Imani Cousar.
Shortly before 3:00am on New Year's Day, they were returning from a party traveling through the intersection of 6th and Somerset in West Kensington when police say they became victims of an apparent 'Bump and Run' robbery.
According to police, they were rear-ended by a van carrying 7 or 8 men, who jumped out of the vehicle and approached the couple.
"The people in the car jumped out, and instead of exchanging information, they wanted money on the spot. From my view, that's a robbery," said the victim's father Hugh Fladger.
The couple ran for their lives, and was chased for three blocks to 8th and Lehigh, where the assailants beat Presbery.
"They stomped him with a bat, they kicked him; stomped him, hit him and his girlfriend," said Fladger.
The girlfriend suffered a black eye and various cuts and bruises, but Presbery, a waiter at an Applebee's, was left with a severe head injury.
"He is fighting for his life," said Dietra Presbery. "He just had… this is his third surgery he's had on his brain; his head injury. He's in a coma."
Presbery remains in critical condition at Temple University Hospital since the New Year's Day assault.
"The only right thing to do is to make sure we identify who did this. If any mother should understand what I'm going through, any father should understand what I'm going through; if it was your child, you would want someone to come forward," said Presbery.
Police have no suspects and very little information to go on. They are asking anyone with information that could help with the investigation to call the Philadelphia Police.
