Local woman pushes for a 'no crime week' in Phila.

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - January 15, 2012

Ada Banks decided to organize the peaceful march to bring attention to all the violence ravishing the city.

"We want it to be a peaceful year. Let's make a fresh start. We're appealing to our communities and potential criminals to put the guns down," said Banks.

Her vision of a 'no crime week,' is in part a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

While some would argue it seems like an impossible task, it's clear that it's an idea that could bring about change.

January is halfway over and there have already been 20 homicides in the city of Philadelphia.

The most recent murder didn't involve guns but fists, in the brutal beating death of a 23-year-old Temple graduate in Old City.

With such a tragic start to the year, Banks hopes to send message to those who use violence.

"We want to encourage our youth to think, think and think again. Change your mind and don't do the crime," said Banks.

The goal is for the group to march from Broad and Cecil B. Moore to the Martin Luther King Jr. Center, where there will be prayer vigil later Sunday.
