So much for pond hockey

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - January 18, 2012

Not cold enough! Usually western New York is frozen solid this time of year.

But this has been an unusually mild winter in much of the country, including Buffalo.

So, Buffalo's annual pond hockey tournament is being moved off the ice. Instead of pond hockey, the skaters will be playing street hockey.

Organizers of next month's Labatt Blue Buffalo Pond Hockey Tournament say they're refunding the entry fees of 1,000 players.

Labatt Blue spokesman Brett Carlson says the tournament can be moved back to the ice, if there's a cold snap.
