The multinational construction consortium Grupo Unidos por el Canal says it paid about 850 workers shortfalls caused by what it called a bookkeeping error.
The company said in a statement Friday that the complaints behind the strike had been addressed and that the five-day-old strike is illegal.
But workers are also demanding the base wage be raised from $2.90 per hour to $4.90, and the wage for the most skilled workers raised from $3.52 per hour to $7.10.
Talks on the demands continue. The project is widening the Panama Canal to accommodate larger ships.
