'Barefoot Bandit' sentenced to 6 1/2 years

SEATTLE - January 27, 2012

Harris-Moore was arrested in the Bahamas when authorities shot out the motor of a boat he stole. He arrived there after making a daring cross-country dash in stolen boats and cars, stealing a plane in Indiana and crash-landing it off the Bahamas.

He pleaded guilty and was sentenced last month to seven years in prison for his state crimes.

Federal prosecutors had asked for a 6 1/2 year term to be served while Harris-Moore serves that state time. Harris-Moore's attorneys had asked U.S. District Judge Richard A. Jones to impose a federal sentence of just under six years.
