Del. man gets 2 years in fatal stabbing case

BEAR, Del. (AP) - January 28, 2012

The News Journal of Wilmington reports Eric Ramirez was sentenced Friday. The 27-year-old admitted in October that he killed 46-year-old William Forrester during a fight at the West Motel in Bear in 2010. Ramirez fled after the stabbing but later turned himself in.

Deputy Attorney General Ipek Medford said there was only one witness to the crime, and that person was using drugs at the time of the fight, making it a difficult case to prove at trial.

Superior Court Judge William Carpenter Jr. expressed some reluctance in approving the deal. He added eight years of probation on top of the prison time.
