Pa. businessman sentenced for bribing NJ inspector

CAMDEN, N.J. - January 29, 2012

Channavel "Danny" Kong of Philadelphia also must pay New Jersey $15,000 in restitution and must complete three years of supervised release once he's freed from prison. The 40-year-ol Kong pleaded guilty last February to bribery and failure to pay employment taxes.

Kong owned Sunrise Labor, a company that provided temporary employees to businesses and usually assumed responsibility for withholding and paying state and federal payroll taxes.

Kong admitted that from 2006 through January 2009 he paid more than $55,000 to labor investigator Joseph Rivera to protect the company from state audits. Rivera also pleaded guilty to accepting bribes and awaits sentencing.
