Skier hits rocks, killed at Pa. ski resort

CHAMPION, Pa. - January 31, 2012

Troopers from the Somerset barracks say 36-year-old David McClelland, of Coraopolis, was knocked unconscious and could not be revived by members of the resort's ski patrol after crashing shortly after 6 p.m. Monday. He was pronounced dead just before 7 p.m.

Resort spokeswoman Anna Weltz says Tuesday resort officials are "deeply saddened" by the accident and their thoughts and prayers go out to the victim's family, before referring all questions to police.

Witnesses tell police McClelland was skiing very fast when he left a slope and went into a wooded, rocky area. Police say they have no more information to release pending further investigation.
