Chester community seeks justice for business owner

CHESTER, Pa. - February 4, 2012

Vigils have been held in Chester, Delaware County to honor the memory of 56 year old Mohammed Fareed.

Not only was he the owner of a Sunoco A-Plus gas station in Chester, but he helped other residents set up businesses to help the community.

It was early Friday morning, December 9th around 4:00am. Relatives say he was putting gas in his van when he was gunned down outside of his own station at 9th and Kerlin Street.

Police believe robbery may have been the motive, but it's not clear if anything was stolen.

Everyone is outraged by the senseless taking of a life.

"All you are doing is killing our community, and all you are doing is taking away good people who really mean something to us," said Zaid Salam.

"The neighborhood is outraged. The community is outraged. We need to get this individual off the street," said Santo Montecalvo.

Police do not have a detailed description of the shooter. That is why the Citizens Crime Commission is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Citizens Crime Commission at 215-546-TIPS.

Fareed leaves behind a wife and three children, two of whom are in college studying to be physicians.
