Trial resuming in Lakewood cop-killing case

TOMS RIVER, N.J. - February 6, 2012

Ocean County prosecutors say 20-year-old Jahmell Crockam gunned down Lakewood Patrolman Christopher Matlosz on Jan. 14, 2011.

Two witnesses last week identified Crockam as the man they saw fire into the police car at close range.

Crockam's lawyer says police arrested the wrong man, and has tried to discredit the witness identifications as unreliable.

Prosecutors say Crockam had outstanding arrest warrants for possession of hollow-point bullets, and had vowed to several people that he would kill a police officer rather than go to prison.
