"I'm supposed to be married in 45 days and I get a phone call that this place is closed and it's not reopening and I have nowhere to get married," bride-to-be Deanna Clancy said.
Deanna is in tears.
The most anticipated day of her life is just days away, but she won't be having her wedding at Renaissance Catering.
The New Jersey Department of Taxation shut it down for back taxes.
Sources say the owner owes nearly $70,000 in income tax withholdings and sales taxes.
The building is now up for sheriff's sale.
"I just came for a tasting two weeks ago. No one told me anything. No one told me they had any financial troubles at all," Deanna said.
Deanna paid almost $6,000 for her wedding.
Judy Stark put down a deposit for $2,600 for her daughter's wedding in September.
"I just hope we can get our money back and this doesn't ruin our special day. It's just a lot of stress put on us during a time that's supposed to be happy," Judy said.
A lawyer for Renaissance tells Action News the owners bought the business two years ago and soon ran into financial difficulties with the depressed economy. He says Renaissance owes about $40,000 in deposits and the principle owners are committed to repaying all of the money back and working with customers to find alternatives venues. But time is running out.
"My invitations are out. My responses are coming back and now I have no place to have this wedding. This is a nightmare. I can't believe it's happening. I have 45 days to find a new place," Deanna Clancy said.
