Winter Weather ADVISORIES issued

February 10, 2012

RELATED: Severe Weather Watches and Warnings from 6abc.com.

TONIGHT: It's cloudy. The overnight low is 36. Rain arrives late at night, changes to snow and begins to accumulate on grassy surfaces. While it's advisable to drive cautiously during the overnight snowfall, temperatures should be mild enough to keep most roads mainly wet overnight.

SATURDAY: Snow showers continue through Saturday morning, but with temperatures remaining above freezing in most neighborhoods, we are expecting most roads to remain mainly wet. The early afternoon high is 42.

Accumulations of 1-3" in most areas are possible, mainly on grassy surfaces.

Nonetheless, it will be advisable for drivers to continue using caution just in case a slick spot develops, especially in typically cooler suburban areas. In the afternoon, the intensity of the snow may begin to wind down.

But, a cold front sliding through the region will dramatically drop temperatures during the afternoon and any roads that are wet and untreated could easily FREEZE-UP.

So, in closing, this system should produce mainly wet roads tonight and tomorrow morning with small 1-3" accumulations mainly on grassy surfaces. But drivers should still use caution, especially Saturday afternoon when temperatures plunge and untreated wet roads become icy.

Pedestrians will want to follow the same advice; the best chance of icy sidewalks and driveways will be Saturday afternoon, but constant caution is advisable.
