Eugene Blood, who served with the Denville Police Department until his arrest, forfeited his position and pension as part of a plea deal with Morris County prosecutors. He also will be barred from holding public employment in New Jersey.
Blood's lawyer says his client is now receiving treatment for a painkiller addiction. The 38-year-old had pleaded guilty last November to official misconduct and must serve two years of the sentence imposed Friday before becoming eligible for parole.
The drug thefts occurred between 2010 and May 2011. Blood admitted that he took Oxycodone and heroin while serving as Denville's evidence officer.
