37-year-old Ammie Robinson of the 2300 block of Singerly Road in Elkton, Maryland has been charged with felony theft.
On January 23rd, County Police responded to a Bear residence for a reported theft.
When officers arrived, the victim indicated that on January 4th she noticed that her engagement ring was missing from her dresser drawer. She told police that earlier in the day, her cleaning service, Better Maid Cleaning Service, had responded out to her home. She noticed the ring missing after the cleaning crew had left her home and said they were the last people to have access.
The investigation revealed that two cleaning maids had been assigned to the victim's residence on January 4th. Police were able to obtain information that one of the maids, later identified as Ammie Robinson, has pawned numerous pieces of jewelry at various pawn shops in Maryland since November 2011.
During the investigation, Officer First Class Paramjit Kaur discovered that Robinson had pawned the victim's engagement ring at one of those pawn shops. Officer Kaur recovered the ring and returned it to the victim.
Police attempted to make contact with Robinson and checked several locations that she was known to frequent, including a family member's home in the community of Coventry, but were unsuccessful in locating Robinson.
On Saturday, Robinson responded to county police headquarters and she was taken into custody without incident.
Robinson was charged with one count of felony theft. She has been arraigned and committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women's Correctional Institute after failing to post $1,000 secured bond. She was also ordered to have no contact with the victim.
