Girls' night out thanks to Kisses for Kyle

PHILADELPHIA - February 12, 2012

7 year old Shayla Garrett's is in a fight for her life. Cancer is her enemy. But despite the daily battle she wages, she had a smile on her face on Sunday.

Thanks to Kisses for Kyle, which has planned a special day for her and her mother; a lunch at Bonefish, a limousine ride into Center City and a makeover at MAC.

"As a parent going through things like cancer and treatment, going out and getting extra things like makeup or having makeover, I can't afford to do," said Jennifer Garrett.

She was joined by a half dozen girls, most of them older, but all fighting the same enemy.

"It makes you feel a lot better and forget about all the things you have to go through," said cancer patient Kearstin Stoffer. "It basically brightens my day instead of sitting in the house and doing nothing."

Sharon Snyder founded the non-profit 11 years ago after her son Kyle succumbed to leukemia.

She now commits much of her life to helping young cancer patients, providing a ray of light during many dark days.

"They are going through so much, whether it is the chemotherapy or radiation, in-patient, the clinics," said Sharon Snyder. "A lot of the children are school bound, they are being taught at home, and they are away from a lot of the everyday social aspect of it.

"Things that are fun with your family that adds smiles to your life are part of the cure; part of waking up in the morning and smiling," said one cancer patient.

The services provided by MAC, Bonefish restaurant and a local limousine service were all donated.
