2 longtime Phillies fans get big surprise

NEW HOPE - February 14, 2012

"I kept telling myself this has to be real I hope this isn't a dream and thank goodness it was real," Adele DiCrescenzo said.

"It's great to have them support us for so long. So we figured it would be a nice gesture to deliver it by hand this year," Amaro said.

What's more - Adele DiCrescenzo is turning 90 years old today. She's been married to 91-year-old World War II veteran Ray for more than 70 years.

Ray was 15 and Adele was 13.

But Ray didn't mind when the Phanatic planted one on the birthday girl. After all, Ray saw her first, all those years ago in Lambertville when she was visiting her grandparents.

"She had beautiful blue eyes," Ray said.

The rest, as they say, is history. They have two children, grandchildren, and even great grandchildren.

Intertwined in their own love story is their love for the Phillies.

Their kitchen is lined with photos.

Ballpark seats from Veterans Stadium sit in their yard.

"They go to every home game. Sometimes my father even watches the replay when he gets home," daughter Eileen Flood said.

Ray was the victim of a hit and run last season outside Citizens Bank Park when he was clipped by a pickup truck leaving a game. They feel lucky he recovered and was soon back in their seats.

"To still have good health the two of us. That is everything," Eileen said.

It's hard to top hand-delivered season tickets for a birthday and Valentine's Day present, but there could be one thing that would top it all.

"They're going to make the World Series this year. I hope so anyhow," ray said.

This couple's wish is that this October to be as red as their Valentine's Day roses.
