Independence Hall tower bell rings again

INDEPENDENCE HALL - February 18, 2012

"I mean there is nothing like seeing that, there's nothing like it, there's nowhere else you can see it, it's all right here for me as a native Philadelphian, it's just one of many great things," Mayor Michael Nutter said.

Mayor Nutter along with Congressmen Bob Brady and Chaka Fattah helped cut the ribbon to the rehabilitation project that cost $4.4-million in stimulus money.

"This is just another one of dozens and dozens of projects all over the city but this is extraordinarily important because of the history," Rep. Fattah said.

A crowd of Philadelphians and tourists gathered to see the unveiling.

"I think I was at the Constitution Center when they discussed what they were going to do about a year and a half ago, so it looks as good as they were saying," Gabriel Gottlieb of University City said.

"I'm really happy they were able to restore it so that future generations can actually view it and see it for long haul," Maryann Schmalstig of New York said.

This tower has survived the weather, deteriorating and decay from over the years.

Those who were here today say it has gotten a remarkable and meaningful facelift.
