Pa. man, 75, sues over arrest in bride's slaying

SOMERSET, Pa. - February 22, 2012

Somerset County prosecutors withdrew the criminal homicide against William McTonic in February 2010. McTonic spent 10 months jailed awaiting trial after Conemaugh Township police charged him with fatally shooting of 73-year-old Ruth Anne Henderson-McTonic on April 3, 2009. Prosecutors dropped those charges after a judge threw out a statement McTonic gave to police.

Investigators say the woman asked McTonic to move out just four days after their March 2009 wedding and wanted a divorce.

McTonic has maintained his innocence and in a federal lawsuit filed Tuesday the Daily American of Somerset reports McTonic alleges police had no probable cause to charge him. The township hasn't commented on the lawsuit.
