Delaware postal facility to remain open

WILMINGTON, Del. - February 23, 2012 The cash-strapped U.S. Postal Service had targeted the Hares Corner site to close as part of the agency's nationwide consolidation plan. Government and business leaders lobbied to save the site, arguing that it would hurt their businesses if it closed. The decision to keep the postal facility open was first reported by WDEL-AM. Rep. Michael Mulrooney, a New Castle Democrat who sponsored a resolution urging that the Hares Corner postal processing facility remain open and whose district includes the center, said in a statement Wednesday night that it's great that everyone's voice was heard. The Hares Corner processing facility employs about 470 people, some of whom could be re-assigned to jobs elsewhere.
