Resident subdues gunman until police arrive

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - February 27, 2012

It was approximately 9:30 p.m. Sunday when police say 26-year-old Maurice Freeman forced himself into a home on the 2900 block of New Hope Street in the Tasker Homes section of South Philadelphia.

Neighbors tell Action News that Freeman was robbing a woman inside when her son and another person came home, saw what was happening and then tackled the gunman.

They were able to hold Freeman on the ground until police arrived. Freeman was hospitalized for injuries he suffered in the struggle.

South Detectives are investigating.
