Philly mayor's office says no new taxes

PHILADELPHIA - February 29, 2012

Spokesman Mark McDonald says the 2013 budget will mark the end of a temporary two-year property tax hike. But the budget makes up for that with anticipated revenue from new property assessments.

McDonald says the mayor's five-year financial plan also contains no tax hikes.

The city is in the midst of an initiative to fix decades of missing or inaccurate residential and commercial property assessments.

McDonald says complaints the new assessments are a backdoor tax increase are unfounded.

Nutter's budget address is scheduled for March 8.
