Ex-clerk at NY archdiocese pleads not guilty

NEW YORK - March 02, 2012

Anita Collins is charged with grand larceny, falsifying business records and forgery.

According to the New York Post (http://nyp.st/zMkW1H ), her lawyer on Thursday asked the judge to consider lowering her $350,000 bail.

But Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Lewis Bart Stone says Collins' family had so far repaid only $100,000 of the $1 million.

He quipped: "Ten cents on the dollar is hardly a full amount."

Prosecutors say Collins stole from the church's Education Department by writing more than 450 checks to one of her sons, each for less than $2,500. Collins allegedly recorded them as payments for such items as power bills or office supplies.
