Investigators say two motorists were already arguing when the trooper arrived at the scene of a collision Tuesday night in the eastbound lanes in Brush Creek Township, Fulton County.
Police say one of the motorists approached the trooper with a pair of aggressive dogs then hit him repeatedly with a flashlight. That's when the trooper fired, killing the driver.
Authorities identified the slain motorist only as a 46-year-old man.
The trooper was flown to a hospital in Altoona for treatment of his injuries. His condition was not immediately available Wednesday morning.
