The incident took place shortly after 5:00 p.m. along the 100 block of Larchwood Street in Upper Providence.
Police say a 5-year-old boy from Collegeville was walking in a wooded area along a trail near the Perkiomen Creek with his mother and brother.
Authorities say somehow a tree fell and struck the child.
The boy was transported by ambulance to Phoenixville Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
