$10 prom dress sale

March 10, 2012

Hundreds of high school juniors and seniors lined up at the Cheltenham Mall Saturday morning in search of that perfect prom gown at the unbelievable price of just $10.

Erica Forstater from W.B. Saul High School was looking for something in blue or green.

"I'm looking for something really nice. I'm not really sure what I want right now, it doesn't really matter as long as it's really nice," said Yasmeen Webb.

"Hopefully a poufy dress, because I want to feel like Cinderella," said Stephanie Kauffman.

Thanks to Fairy Godmothers Inc., many of these girls' prom wishes came true.

This is the 12th year that Joyce Jesko's organization has offered donated dresses at huge discounts at the Prom Fair.

For many families, in this economy, it's a godsend.

"I have two daughters, both graduating high school this year," said Sharlene Waller. "We have to get two prom dresses, two graduations, two of everything, so this kind of helps us out in trying to manage our budget and get everything accomplished. And their dresses are beautiful."

Each girl is assigned a personal shopper to help her choose that perfect dress.

Moms, friends and other family must stay outside the shopping area, but that doesn't stop them from offering their opinions.

The girls have so many style and size choices, most do find that perfect dress.

Plus, they are given makeup and are able to buy accessories, also for pennies on the dollar.

Clearly, most do leave feeling that wishes really do come true, at least for Prom night anyway.

"When you see the girl walk out and that gown is on her, and doesn't need a thing, you know that gown was made for her, and it just makes my heart just overwhelm, and I just get goose bumps," said Joyce Jesko.

The fairy godmothers prom gown sale continues the next two Saturday's.

The sale will continue on March 17th from 10:00am to 5:00pm, and on March 24 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

There are hundreds of short and long dresses, many donated by David's Bridal, and all are on sale for $10.

Girls need to bring a student ID and can choose one long and one short dress, along with accessories, which are on sale for just a couple of dollars each.
