$17,500 reward for unsolved Society Hill attack

PHILADELPHIA - March 10, 2012

Just a short distance away from where Revolutionary War soldiers are buried, 46-year-old Darren Rogers' life changed forever.

On November 7th, as was his routine, Rogers was walking to his doorman's job at the Chocolate Works Apartments.

Just before 11:30pm, as he approached the 400 block of Pine Street in Society Hill, two men wearing hoodies attacked him.

A surveillance camera in the area captured what happened next.

The suspects assaulted Rogers, and then one of them pulled a gun.

Rogers is shot once in the chest leaving him with no use of his legs and little use of his arms.

What happened to Rogers has angered residents in the area.

"We were very upset about this violent, senseless crime," said Steve Weizler, of the Society Hill Civic Association.

The community came together to help solve the crime.

"The neighbors got together and decided to raise a fund to find the persons who did this crime and bring them to justice," said Weizler.

That fund, plus money from an anonymous donor has pushed the reward to $17,500.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Citizens Crime Commission at 215-546-TIPS.

If your tip leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible you can collect the reward.
