Chesco man charged in overnight crime spree

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - March 14, 2012

Alexander S. Bolte, 19, of the 300 block of Old Bailey Lane in Thornbury Twp., is charged with 21 counts, including burglary, theft, criminal trespass, driving under the influence and other offenses.

Police say it began around 2:53 Wednesday morning with the report of a burglary in the 200 block of William Penn Blvd. in Thornbury Twp. Police say the homeowner found Bolte, whom the homeowner knew, in a bedroom of the residence. Bolte fled from the residence on foot before police arrived. Officers descended on the area and searched for Bolte, who was reported to be wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

A half hour later, Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police officers responded to the report of a suspicious condition in progress at a home in the unit block of Zachary Drive in Thornbury. The homeowner told police he saw a white man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt in the homeowner's vehicle in the driveway. The homeowner chased the man away, but soon discovered that two vehicles had been broken into, and that a handbag and money had been taken.

As police searched the area, at 3:36am, an officer saw a man fitting Bolte's description driving a silver Jeep Patroit erratically on South Westbourne Road in Thornbury Township near Zachary Drive. The officer tried to pull the Jeep over, but the driver fled at a high rate of speed towards East Street Road.

The officer lost sight of the Jeep on Westbourne Road in Westtown Township. Officers checked the area, and few minutes later, at 3:40 a.m., they found the Jeep crashed through a fence in front of a home in the 700 block of Westbourne Road in Westtown Township. Bolte was in the car, and police arrested him. Police say he failed field sobriety tests at the scene.

Police say Bolte stole the silver Jeep from a residence in the 600 block of South Westbourne Road in Thornbury Township after finding the keys to the vehicle inside. The vehicle suffered damage as well as the landscape and fence where the vehicle left Westbourne Road. Inside the car, police say they found the items stolen from the parked cars on Zachary Drive.

Bolte was scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge William Kraut at District Court 15-2-03 Wednesday afternoon.
