We asked Philadelphia fashion expert Ashley Schaffer, and she told us this is definitely the year to go shopping.
The Pantone Institute, the official keeper of color for the art and fashion world, has declared tangerine the color of spring for women. Anything in the orange range will be "in".
As for men, especially with casual clothing, bright greens and blues will dominate.
Women will enjoy mixing patterns, textures and fabrics. There's total freedom on hemlines...anything from mini to maxi.
Some skirts are shorter in front and longer in the back. It all works, if it works for you.
Given the predominance of bright colors and attention-grabbing patterns, women's shoes are quiet and subtle, with nude being the color of choice in any style.As usual, trends for men are less dramatic, but mixing is still welcome if you're comfortable. Women's jewelry and accessories will feature a spectrum of metals...maybe three or four in a single piece.
You'll see these trends in all price ranges, from mass-market discount stores to exclusive boutiques.

Vibrant, swirling, styled-head-to-toe patterns and prints sashayed down the spring 2012 runways. Spring 2012 Trend: Oranges and Tangerines
Just before New York Fashion Week kicked off, Pantone Institute shared its prediction for the most popular colors of spring 2012 , and it was spot-on: The pick for spring's numero uno shade, Tangerine Tango, was all over the runways.
