Police in Berks County say officers were dispatched to a Reading neighborhood at about 3 a.m. Sunday after neighbors reported hearing shots.
Reading Sgt. John Solecki says they found nothing, but police returned around noon after neighbors reported shell casings on the sidewalk.
Officers then found two bullets in the front window of a home on the other side of the street.
Inside the first-floor apartment, they found a 40-year-old man dead. His name has not been released pending notification of relatives.
Solecki says the victim was apparently killed by stray bullets fired across the street. He says preliminary indications are that only one firearm was used.
