It was around 12:45 p.m. when rescuers were called to the southbound lanes of the highway in Ridley near I-476.
The view from Chopper 6 HD showed a black car on its roof. A damaged minivan could be seen nearby.
County dispatchers tell Action News that both people who were trapped have been rescued and taken to the hospital.
Only one lane of traffic was getting by as rescuers remained on the scene.
Traffic was backed up for miles approaching the accident scene.
