Police: 'Significant developments' in Vt. death

ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) - March 28, 2012

Detective Sgt. Walter Smith of the state Bureau of Criminal Investigations said the news conference is scheduled at 10 a.m. Wednesday at a hotel south of St. Johnsbury on their investigation on the death of Melissa Jenkins.

A medical examiner said Tuesday that the 33-year-old St. Johnsbury Academy science teacher was killed. Police did not release the cause of death so as not to inhibit the investigation.

Jenkins' toddler was found alone in her idling SUV over the weekend. A makeshift memorial of luminaries with individual notes from students on them lined the entry to a main building at the school.
