"It's disgusting, it really is; that people will take lives with no, no, no remorse," said Janice Collins, the victim's mother.
Janice Collins is fighting for justice for Ericka Brair. Instead of celebrating what would have been her daughter's 23rd birthday this year, she is commemorating the 5th year of her murder.
On the night of March 15, 2007, Ericka went out with a group of friends.
"She was supposed to testify in a court case, and I went into her room to wake her up, and she wasn't there," said Collins.
On April 16, 2007, her body was found in the 2100 block of Kubach Street in a remote area of Northeast Philadelphia. She had been stabbed at least 40 times.
"They found her a month later. She was stabbed over 40 times, and they threw her in a lot just like a piece of trash. Nobody deserves that," Collins said.
Five years later and police have no leads; no one is talking.
"The Citizens Crime Commission is administering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person that committed this act," said Santo Montecalvo.
In addition, the city of Philadelphia is administering a reward up to $20,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
Police are asking anyone with information to call the Citizens Crime Commission at 215-546-TIPS or the Philadelphia Police at 215-686-8477, and help bring closure to Ericka's family. All calls are anonymous.
