Mitt Romney visits Delaware County

WASHINGTON (AP) - April 4, 2012

Front runner Mitt Romney made a campaign appearance Wednesday night in Delaware County.

In his first official stop in his Pennsylvania Primary campaign, Gov. Mitt Romney was greeted by an enthusiastic crowd of four to five hundred supporters.

And for the first time in his bid for the Republican Presidential nomination he made no mention of his opponents & focused his remarks solely on President Obama.

"I think he's so out of touch with the American people that he doesn't see how many people are struggling because of his policies. He likes to say that he didn't cause the recession, the economic crisis, and that's true, but he didn't make it any better, he made it worse," said Governor Mitt Romney.

Speaking at the Iron Shop, a family owned small business that manufactures spiral staircases, Romney talked about how the President's policies have hurt businesses.

"54% of America's workers in the private sector work in businesses taxed at the individual level, so when you raise the tax, the marginal tax, you kill jobs," said Romney.

The Romney campaign sees Delaware County as a battle ground in the upcoming Pennsylvania Republican primary, and observers believe the only real threat he faces is former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum.

"I need you to take the next step, the next step in taking back America and restore opportunity and freedom and putting people back to work and strengthening our middle class, growing America, allowing us to maintain a strong military, second to none in the world," Romney said.

With Romney closing in on the GOP nomination, there was a lot of speculation here on who his vice presidential running mate should be.

"I think he has Chris Christie as a great option, Marco Rubio is a great option, Mitch Daniels is a great option, there's s plenty of fantastic options," said Mike Puppio.

"There are a lot of great choices," said Andy Riley. "Marco Rubio is great; Nikki Haley the governor of South Carolina, there are so many great choices."

Once a Republican stronghold, Delaware County has become more of a purple county, so Romney is hoping to make some in-roads, ultimately hoping to carry this very important swing state.
