Health lessons we can learn from Fido

PHILADELPHIA, PA.; April 2, 2012

Doctors say we'd all be healthier if we adopted 5 habits from canines.

The first is to be active, and have fun!

"They want to be let out all of the time. They want to run, they want to use their legs and build their muscles, build their endurance and get all of that energy out," says pediatrician Dr. Emma Raizman.

Dr. Raizman says we can also learn portion control for meals, since most dogs are fed the same amount every day.

Dogs make sleeping a priority, and we should, too.

We could also learn to let go of the little problems.

And we can take a few cues on showing our appreciation to others.

"You know when you come home your dog is wagging their tail, they're happy to see you, and they don't hold it in," says Raizman.

"They just let all of their emotions show."

By doing that, Raizman says we humans can have better mental health, and stronger relationships.
