Angel Nieves, 18, of the 900 block of E. Schiller Street in Philadelphia, was arrested Tuesday and charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, robbery and related offenses.
Police say Nieves is the man who shot and killed 26-year-old Rafael Ramos Del Valle on March 18th after an attempted robbery at La Familia Latina Grocery Store located at 3357 N 5th Street in Hunting Park.
During the course of the attempted robbery, a masked gunman, identified by police as Edward Friedland, 26, of the 3600 block of North 15th Street in Philadelphia, allegedly shot store clerk Antonio Menegro once in the right side of the stomach.
Police say the 38-year-old clerk fired back at Friedland, striking him at least once.
After Friedland was hit, police say he fled the store. Del Valle, who was a friend of the store owner, went after Friedland.
Police say Del Valle got about a block from the store when he was shot execution-style by Nieves, an alleged accomplice of Friedland.
Friedland was later arrested after seeking treatment for his gunshot wound. He has been charged with Attempted Murder, Robbery, Aggravated Assault and related offenses for the shooting of the Menegro.
